About The Biomedica conference

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Damascus University’s Biotherapies Research Center, in cooperation with the Syrian Technocrats Organization, is organizing the Biomedica conference.

An initiative led by Syrian scientists and professionals committed to rebuilding scientific bridges between researchers inside Syria and the global scientific community. Focused on biomedical sciences and cutting-edge research, the conference aims to foster collaboration, exchange knowledge, and highlight innovative work carried out by Syrian researchers worldwide. By bringing together experts, students, and professionals across disciplines, the conference creates a platform for scientific dialogue, mentorship, and partnership. Our goal is to contribute to a thriving research ecosystem in Syria—one that supports discovery, innovation, and long-term scientific growth.

Key Objectives

Establish a scientific network between researchers inside and outside Syria
Facilitate knowledge exchange, collaboration, and mentorship
Provide a platform for presenting research findings and discussing challenges in science and academia
Encourage innovation and potential funding opportunities

Target Group

The conference is designed for Syrian university students, primarily from the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, Biotechnology, Dentistry, and Biomedical Sciences.

The conference will span three days, featuring:

Scientific lectures
Poster presentations (there will be three poster prizes)
Specialized workshops
Career session

The program will cover two major scientific tracks aligned with global research priorities:

Oncology and Immunology
Molecular Biology

About the Organizers

This conference is organized by members of Syrian Technocrats, a volunteer-driven scientific organization dedicated to empowering Syrian researchers and strengthening scientific culture within the country. In addition to Dr Ghalia Abo-Alchamat.

Dr Ghalia Abo-Alchamat

Dr. Ghalia Abou Alchamat is a Professor at Damascus University and the Director of the Biotherapeutics Research Center since 2025. Academic researcher with over 15 research projects. A supervisor of several Master’s and PhD theses in the field of Molecular Biology and Molecular Genetics, as well as several graduation projects. A peer reviewer in several international and local Journals. Also, a member of the Arab Biotechnology Association.

Dr. Mila Daoud

A postdoctoral researcher specializing in cancer research at the University Hospital Cologne, Germany. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy in Syria before continuing her academic career in Germany, where she obtained a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and subsequently completed a PhD in Molecular Biology. Her research focuses on advancing the understanding of cancer biology and contributing to the development of innovative therapeutic strategies.

Alice Mostafa

A PhD student in Molecular Immunology at the University of Liège in Belgium, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Damascus University and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Technology Sciences from Southern Federal University in Russia. She subsequently worked in the laboratories of the Russian Academy of Sciences before commencing her doctoral studies in Belgium

Together, they represent a model of Syrian scientific excellence returning to serve their community and paving the way for a new generation of researchers.
