Dr. Carolyne Barakat

Carolyne Barakat, PhD is an Assistant Professor at the Center for Cancer Immunotherapy and Immunobiology (CCII), Kyoto University (Kyoto, Japan). She obtained her PhD in Molecular and Cellular Immunology from Nagoya University (Nagoya, Japan) in 2023. She subsequently completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the National Cancer Center Research Institute (Tokyo, Japan), where she continues to work as a Visiting Researcher and collaborates on basic and translational cancer immunology research.

Dr. Barakat’s research focuses on the development of T cell therapies and the identification of tumor antigens that can be targeted for cancer treatment. Her work investigates T cell recognition of tumor antigens and the mechanisms governing self/non-self-discrimination in antitumor immunity, with a particular focus on hematological malignancies and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Through these studies, she aims to advance our understanding of the dynamic interactions between T cells and cancer and to contribute to the development of next-generation cancer immunotherapies.
